Attracting, developing and retaining talent is top of mind for the microelectronics industry. Military veterans and reservists represent a strong, diverse talent pool of highly motivated employees who possess many valuable skills and experiences required by our industry, especially when it comes to technician and operator level positions. Via its VetWorks initiatives, SEMI has made it a priority to help connect our members to this skilled pool of potential workers. By aligning industry hiring practices and existing internship and apprenticeship programs, building on previous training and lead to credentialing, we give veterans greater access to career opportunities and a wide variety of well-paid roles.
An important industry resource is the SEMI VetWorks: A Guide to Veteran Recruitment, Hiring, and Retention in the Microelectronics Industry, a detailed guidebook that includes tools, research, and recommendations on welcoming veterans to our industry and what's required to retain valuable talent. SEMI members also can access a free program via the SHRM Veterans at Work Certificate which provides valuable information on how to connect with the military community.

Semiconductor Military Engagement Events
SEMI is an association partner of the Heroes MAKE America (HMA) Program which builds strong connections between the military community and the manufacturing industry. Through HMA, SEMI members have access to resources on how to attract and retain transitioning service members and veterans, as well connect to profiles and resumes of military personnel graduating from SkillBridge-approved training and certification programs geared towards manufacturing. Vet S.T.E.P.
SEMI Foundation is now collaborating with Vet S.T.E.P., a DoD-approved Skillbridge training program that provides military and veterans with the critical skills needed to become technicians in the semiconductor industry. Following a 2-week training, Vet S.T.E.P. facilitates an 8-week Internship with select semiconductor and microelectronics companies. View a video about the most recent training.
