Korea’s Solar Future is Bright: Over 30,000 Expected at Event in Seoul

Seoul, Korea – January 26, 2010 – The Korean government is driving the growth and development of Korea’s renewable energy industry. Korea wants to significantly increase the adoption of solar energy nationwide and become a world leader and supplier of PV technology. Through public and private investment, Korea is targeting 10 percent of the world’s PV manufacturing market by using the existing infrastructure and the resources of semiconductor and display industries where Korea has developed leadership. Korea plans to install 1.3GW by 2012, with exports reaching US$ 3 billion and supporting the employment of 50,000 people.

The power of the government’s commitment to solar and the existing infrastructure combine to create global interest in Korea’s PV opportunities. Next week, over 30,000 people are expected to attend SEMICON Korea and SOLARCON Korea 2010 in Seoul. SOLARCON Korea is Korea’s largest international PV event with support from the industry’s key leaders. It is the only PV event in Korea based in Seoul. The event’s keynote on February 4 features Bernhard Dimmler, CEO with Wurth Solar in Germany speaking on “Thin Film PV, a Mainstream Technology.”

Event highlights on February 3 include:

  • Market Outlook: Europe and Japan: With information critical for both investment and business planning, market outlooks include policy issues. Daniela Schreiber from EuPD Research will discuss “Europe PV Market and Public Policy” and Makoto Shimizu from the Development Bank of Japan will cover “Recent Trend in Japanese PV Industries and the Government Policy.”
