Semiconductor Industry Rebound and Emerging Market Opportunities Fuel Interest in SEMICON West 2010

SAN JOSE, Calif. – March 24, 2010 – Spurred by a major market expansion, SEMICON West 2010 returns to the Moscone Center in San Francisco on July 13-15 with new programs on leading-edge semiconductor manufacturing, emerging market opportunities in LEDs, flexible electronics, MEMS, and productivity opportunities in established fabs. Free visitor registration for SEMICON West 2010 is open through June 4, 2010, after which there will be a $100 onsite registration charge.

Analyst predictions for double-digit increase in global semiconductor revenues, and year-over-year capital spending growth in excess in 50 percent, accompany a major rebound for semiconductor equipment and materials markets. The North American equipment market is expected to top $4.4 billion in 2010, according to SEMI Consensus Forecast. Intel, IBM and GLOBALFOUNDRIES anticipate significant spending increases in advanced chip geometries and 3D IC technologies, while emerging markets in MEMS, LEDs and flexible electronics are expecting breakthrough record years.

The 21st Annual IEEE/SEMI Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing Conference (ASMC 2010) will be co-located with SEMICON West for the first time and features critical development and technological breakthroughs.

All these developments signal an exciting year for SEMICON West, the oldest and most international semiconductor manufacturing technology exposition. Last year, over 17,000 visitors attended SEMICON West – including buyers and specifiers from virtually every IDM and foundry in the world and every major fabless semiconductor company in the U.S.

Highlights of this year’s SEMICON West include:

  • Keynote Speeches: Keynote presentations are from IBM Fellow, Dr. Bernard S. Meyerson, vice president, Innovation & Global University Relations, IBM Systems and Technology Group; and Intel fellow, Dr. Paolo A. Gargini, chairman, International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors (ITRS), Technology and Manufacturing Group and director, Technology Strategy for Intel.
  • Extreme Electronics: Extreme Electronics “show within a show” features programs on the latest developments in MEMS, High-Brightness LEDS, flexible electronics, energy harvesting, and thin-film batteries.
  • ASMC 2010: One of the industry’s leading technology conferences, the Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing Conference (ASMC), moves to SEMICON West this year – opening up greater opportunities for industry professionals to meet and discuss critical issues in semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Vision ATE 2010: The latest technologies and techniques in semiconductor test will be discussed at the 3rd IEEE International Workshop on Automated Test Equipment – Vision ATE 2020 – which will be held concurrently with the exposition.
  • TechXPOTs: The latest news on next-generation lithography, 450 mm, 3D IC, advanced packaging and other major industry initiatives will be discussed at the successful TechXPOT stages. Expanding on the popular on-floor programs, this year two smaller stages called TechSites will explore the latest productivity and technology solutions in a variety of areas.
  • OSAT Panel: Important changes are occurring in the outsource model for packaging, assembly and test that affect fabless semiconductor companies and the design-to-test supply chain. This session will feature leading Test, Assembly and Packaging companies who will discuss how these changes will affect the industry.
  • ITRS Public Discussion Session: As the industry plans for major technology transitions in lithography, 3D IC, wafer size and other issues, the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors (ITRS) 2010 public review and comment session will be a lively, spirited discussion on the future of the industry.

To extend the reach of SEMICON West programs and exhibitor news to attendees and non-attendees unable to participate in all the events, this year will feature a Virtual SEMICON West with online booths and webcasts of select keynote speeches and TechXPOT presentations. This will be the first time that a major technology tradeshow combines both conventional and virtual expositions in a single event.

SEMICON West 2010 will also be enhanced by its third year of partnership with Intersolar, the leading solar energy technology event, which is expected to increase in size in terms of booths, attendees, and conference program content.
