SEMI Members Invited to Participate in October 21, 2008 ISMI Meeting on REACH Regulations

Description

For the past year, SEMI, ISMI, and ESIA have been collaborating to exchange information across the semiconductor industry supply chains for EU REACH regulatory compliance. As part of this process, ISMI is hosting a REACH Regulations Meeting on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 (in Austin, Texas, USA) to discuss specific industry-wide action plans for the near future. As part of the industry supply chain, SEMI member companies, including chemicals and equipment suppliers, are invited to participate. Participants not able to attend in person are invited to join the meeting via telephone and webcast conferencing.

Date and Time

The meeting is scheduled to accommodate participants from Europe, North America, and Asia.

ISMI will be serving breakfast in the morning and will have plenty of coffee and caffeinated sodas for the early start. ISMI will also be providing lunch and an afternoon snack.

Telephone and Webcast Conferencing

If you cannot attend the physical meeting in Austin, you can still participate by telephone and webcast (WebEx) conferencing. More information about accessing these conferencing services will be provided my ISMI after you register (see below).

There is NO FEE to attend.

To attend the meeting, all participants MUST register as soon as possible by emailing Laurie Beu (at ISMI in Austin) at laurie.beu@ismi.sematech.org. When registering, please include your full name, company, job title, address, phone number and email. Please also indicate if your company is a member of SEMI (or other semiconductor industry association). After registering, you will receive more complete information about attending.

Each representative will present focus and status of their group’s efforts and identify their major concerns (3 presenters - 20 minutes each)

Breakout Session Overview.

Overview of the breakout process.

Each breakout session leader will present a brief overview of the issue their team is addressing, background, and expected outcome of the breakout.

Breakout sessions: cross functional sub-teams to develop industry action plans (that include deliverables, owners and delivery dates).

Breakout 1: Semiconductor exposure scenarios - Develop plan and timeline for understanding which chemicals require exposure scenarios, tonnage bands, timing for registration, etc. and developing semiconductor exposure scenario(s).

Breakout 2: SVHC and candidate list chemicals – industry evaluation and risk assessment of proposed candidate chemicals and developing a common materials declaration.

Breakout 3: Materials Declaration - Determine if a common materials declaration is needed for use in the semiconductor supply chain. Identifying the path for developing a common materials declaration if the decision is made that one is needed.

Breakout Sessions

More information about the breakout sessions (8:30 AM – 1:45 PM in above schedule) will be sent to participants after they register. The breakout sessions will include the following:

Breakout 1: Semiconductor Exposure Scenarios

  • Breakout focus: Develop plan and timeline for understanding which chemicals require exposure scenarios, tonnage bands, timing for registration, etc. and developing semiconductor exposure scenario(s).
  • Expected Outcome: Plan and timeline for development of semiconductor exposure scenarios.

Breakout 2: SVHC and Candidate List Chemicals

  • Breakout focus: Identify process and timelines for industry evaluation and risk assessment of proposed candidate list chemicals and response plan once chemicals are listed.
  • Expected Outcome: Plan and timeline for reviewing and assessing risk of proposed additions to the candidate list; process for developing response plans if a chemical used in the industry is added to the candidate list.

Breakout 3: Materials Declaration

  • Breakout focus: Determine if a common materials declaration is needed for use in the semiconductor supply chain. Identify the path for developing a common materials declaration if the decision is made that one is needed.
  • Expected Outcome: Determination if a common materials declaration is needed and identification of path to develop one if needed.
