Highlights of the February 2013 Edition of the Fab Databases

The February 2013 edition of the World Fab ForecastFabFuturesWorld Fab WatchOpto/LED Fab Watch, and the Opto/LED Fab Forecast databases have been published and is available to our existing subscribers. Here are a few highlights from our World Fab Forecast:database:

Key Points

  • Fab construction spending is expected to increase by 6.5% (US$5.9B) in 2013 followed by a decline of 18.5% (US$4.8B) in 2014.
  • Fab equipment spending for 2013 is expected to be flat (-0.4% or US$31.7B)
  • Fab equipment spending for 2014 is expected to increase by 24% YoY or US$39.3B.
  • Growth rate of installed capacity is expected to increase to 2.8% YoY in 2013 (up from 3.2% for 2012) and another 5.4% in 2014.

Activity Report

  • Since the last report published in November 2012, we have made 262 changes on 212 facilities. 
  • Added 13 facilities (2 new and 11 existing).
  • 16 facilities were closed, 2 fabs were merged, and 7 fab projects were cancelled.
  • The reports lists a total of 1153 facilities of which 146 are classified as Discrete/LED. 
  • The report lists 58 facilities, which will begin production this year and beyond.
