Tibor Pavelka Honored with European SEMI Award 2011

BRUSSELS, Belgium – 11 October 2011– Dr. Tibor Pavelka, CEO of Semilab Co. Ltd., is the recipient of the European SEMI Award 2011 for proving that a European company, in the field of metrology, is ready to compete with U.S. and Asian competitors. The award was presented during the SEMICON Europa Executive Summit in Dresden.

Dr. Pavelka is one of the founders of Semilab and headed the R&D activity of the company from its founding in 1990 until recently. During this period the original portfolio of electrical material characterization techniques, such as DLTS, µPCD carrier lifetime measurement, have considerably been widened to the current range of 32 product lines including even optical techniques. Semilab is currently the most successful metrology company in Europe with a broad range of offerings starting from laboratory type of measurement tools up to fully automated inline 300mm systems.

Dr. Pavelka became CEO of Semilab in 1995 and since then he has led several task forces and contributed to the development of several approaches related to control, inspection and metrology equipment. Under his management, Semilab extended the application of a number of semiconductor measurement technologies to the photovoltaic (PV) industry and became a major metrology player in PV as well. He also completed several semiconductor metrology company and technology acquisitions in the U.S. and in Europe to extend Semilab’s own R&D activity, reaching faster growth for the company.

“Dr. Pavelka has made impressive contributions to advances in technology,” said Heinz Kundert, president of SEMI Europe. “We are pleased to recognize him for his significant accomplishments.”

The European SEMI Award was established more than two decades ago to recognize individuals and teams who made a significant contribution to the European semiconductor and related industries.
