Sold Out SEMI Malaysia Forum Tackles Assembly & Test Issues in Southeast Asia

SINGAPORE — November 13, 2013 — SEMI announced that their first-ever event to be held in Malaysia on November 20, 2013 is sold out. The SEMI Malaysia Forum, themed "Technology Innovation in Assembly & Test,” includes participants from ASM Technology, SPT Asia, Kulicke and Soffa, Advantest, ASE, LTX-Credence, TEL, Kester, KLA-Tencor, Silterra, Disco, Equvo and many others. More than 200 attendees from over 50 companies such as STM, Infineon, Renesas, Skyworks, Linde, Lam Research, Hermes-Epitek, Osram, Carsem, Unisem will convene at the SEMI Malaysia Forum (www.semi.org/Malaysia).

The semiconductor industry will continue to expand in leading edge capacity in 2014, adding capacity in the backend for wafer bumping and flip chip packaging. For Southeast Asia, about one billion dollars will be spent on assembly and test equipment this year, and the same or even higher spending is forecasted for 2014 given the strong presence of assembly in test plants in the region.

Kai Fai, Ng, president, SEMI Southeast Asia, said “The Southeast Asia region, especially the countries of Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, and Vietnam continues to play a vital role in the assembly and test of semiconductor devices.  The overwhelming response to the SEMI Malaysia Forum may be attributed to the fact that more than 70 global and domestic packaging and test companies call Malaysia home, and Malaysia continues to attract new investment to fuel future growth.”

The SEMI Malaysia Forum is endorsed by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI), the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and the Penang Foundry & Engineering Industries Association.  Information on the event can be found at www.semi.org/Malaysia.

Test, assembly and packaging challenges will be further addressed at the upcoming SEMICON Singapore 2014 (www.semiconsingapore.org) to be held April 23-25 at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Center.  Southeast Asia microelectronics industry stakeholders are encouraged to book their participation early.
