Blood, Sweat & Tears III - Call For Topics

Call for Papers & Topics
NBMC and the Blood, Sweat & Tears III (BS&T III) Planning Committee invite you to submit a short description or abstract for consideration as a speaker at the Nov. 2-3 Blood, Sweat & Tears III Workshop in Arlington, VA.

The forum will explore the critical technical areas with product and process developers, and, collectively, show how quantitative monitoring leads to a healthier way of life. In addition, methods for reliably and consistent manufacturing of these devices, and how that fits into design and development will be addressed.

Submissions, due before September 30, should address one of 4 primary topic areas:

  • End Users & Reliability
  • Chemistry/Microfluids
  • Sensors
  • Power, Communication & Electronics

Product Categories: Medical & Environmental Monitors
Human performance, medical and environmental monitors, even with their different market focuses, share many similarities when it comes to design, manufacturing and data management. All three areas share certain combinations of chemistries, physics, electronics and biometrics for assessing the needs of the market.  Please share your work with the group.

Human performance-monitoring devices are aimed at measuring the ability of persons to function as needed on a moment-to-moment basis. This category includes, among others: warfighters, drivers, athletes, industrial workers, and health-care providers.

Human medical-monitoring devices measure the response to treatment, or assess the potential for harm to individuals who may be patients or healthy individuals in a hazardous situation, and includes:  elderly individuals at home, patients during treatment and patients in recovery.

Environmental monitoring devices measure the health and condition of many of the external aspects also important to our well-being. The category includes air, agriculture, water, food, and other aspects of our daily lives. How does the development of small, flexible, electronic systems add to the viability of these systems?

Devices for any of these markets must not only be precise and accurate, but also reliable in operation, repeatable in performance, and reproducible through consistent manufacturing.  Let us know how you and your work will influence the products, materials, adoption and, ultimately, our lives.

How to Submit an Abstract

Send abstracts of 100 -200 words clearly describing the technical breakthrough or discovery that will be presented and why it should be considered by the committee, to emarzili@semi.org.  Preference will be given to original research and advancements in process and materials.

Blood, Sweat & Tears III is a technical workshop and abstracts should be prepared for a technical audience who wish to hear factual, scientific data on notable breakthroughs or ideas. Abstracts focused only on promoting new products or services, without consideration to the problem solved and science behind the concept, will not be accepted. SEMI, FlexTech and Nano-Bio Manufacturing Consortium members will receive priority consideration.

Benefits of Presenting
NBMC members are pushing the limits on creating medical monitors with actionable results.  Exposure to this audience can be the introduction to key players in the industry.  Frequently, presenters at NBMC workshops have been engaged in both personal and business relationships as a result of the information they share.  Participants will also receive exposure via social media and workshop marketing coverage. Speakers receive complimentary registration.

Audience
This forum will bring together the players across the growing range of industries that are entering or advancing human monitoring applications, to:

  • Share pre-competitive ideas that may be applied to product development;
  • Assess roadblocks in bringing products to market and;
  • Form partnerships that have become key in overcoming obstacles to successful manufacturing and product development

New Trends in Product & Process Development
NBMC is at the forefront of a new trend in industry and academia that focuses on partnerships to develop new pre-competitive manufacturing technology to spur industry growth and economic security. The triad of NBMC and its sister organizations – FlexTech and NextFlex – supports advanced technology and initial product development from pre-pilot to implementation in full production.

NBMC & Blood Sweat & Tears

Blood, Sweat & Tears (BS&T) is a series of workshops exploring nano-bio electronics and wearable human monitoring technologies and applications. Since August 2015, NBMC has been conducting these forums for the understanding, education, and promotion of non-invasive human performance monitoring technology and manufacturing. BS&T I brought together industry and university innovators to explore current products, current research innovations, technical vision and challenges. BS&T II targeted users’ needs and specifications for today’s medical professionals and their patients: Army and Air Force soldiers and pilots and high performance athletes. NBMC has continued to fund R&D efforts based on technology gaps identified and new challenges discovered at these workshops.
