Less than two weeks after SEMI announced 65 Founding Members of the Semiconductor Climate Consortium (SCC), representatives from the group held several introductory sessions during COP27 in Sharm el Sheik, Egypt.
The Honorable Al Gore delivered inspiring opening remarks at the Nov. 10 session, congratulating the SCC for forming, setting its ambition, and committing to collaboration, transparency and ambition. The session featured the panel discussion SCC Collaboration for Solutions on Climate with representatives from SCC founding members ASM, ASMPT, Samsung Electronics and Schneider Electric. Dr. Mousumi Bhat, Vice President of Sustainability Programs at SEMI, moderated the panel. McKinsey & Co. hosted the session and Mark Patel, Senior Partner provided welcome remarks and expressed the companies support for the goals of the SCC.
Gore expressed confidence that the semiconductor value chain can help overcome the climate crisis.
“A lot of the activity in this consortium is pre-competitive but even so, it takes an act of courage and intellectual bravery and commitment to the future of humanity to put in the extra time, effort and passion necessary to bring the consortium together,” he said. “I am immensely impressed and cannot underscore enough how important it is to succeed.”
