Two major areas of risk management for the the electronic system design industry are government regulations, including export laws, and protection of intellectual property. Two ESD Alliance committees, Export and License Management & Anti-Piracy, provide the forum for member companies to address issues of common concern.
The Export Committee represents the EDA industry in Washington, particularly with the agencies overseeing export regulations. Our goal is to educate the agencies about our products and how they are classified against the Commerce Control List, to ensure the correct level of export controls are applied to our products and technology, and to educate Alliance members regarding export and other government issues affecting our industry and each company’s ability to sell and support its products.

The License Management and Anti-Piracy Committee is a group of subject matter experts representing ESD Alliance member companies who collaborate on common goals regarding:
- License Management: Technologies and practices to help honest customers operate within their license agreements.
- Anti-Piracy: Technologies and practices to hinder the theft of products and algorithms that EDA companes spend millions of R&D dollars to develop.
