Who we are

The SEMI Manufacturing Ownership Diversity (MOD) Working Group includes representation by many semiconductor manufacturers, OEMs and material suppliers. It is devoted to developing a diverse supply chain for the semiconductor manufacturing value chain and breakdown barriers between manufacturers and diverse suppliers.

The MOD was established to provide a forum for SEMI members to foster understanding of supplier diversity in the manufacturing space, align stakeholders on pre-competitive diversity issues, and create growth opportunities for SEMI businesses and their partners in the global manufacturing supply chain. The group also includes certified diverse suppliers as well as organizations, such as WEConnect, which represent diverse suppliers. We accomplish this through:

•    Awareness - Create matchmaking opportunities between buyers and diversely owned companies in the manufacturing space
•    Ability - Increase the ability of diversely owned companies to do business with prime suppliers and end users. Diverse companies must win the bid, no freebies.
•    Adoption - Increase use of diverse suppliers within the manufacturing space

Key Facts

Diverse Supplier Panel 2022

A diverse-owned company is a business that is at least 51 percent owned, controlled, operated, and managed by an individual(s) from under-represented and/or under-utilized group as currently supported by local law.

Scope:
1. Global: General criteria – 51% owned and operated
2. Region/Country: Specific diverse categories as recognized by local laws. WBE is the most commonly recognized category outside of U.S. Some categories are country specific, e.g. Veteran
3. Company/Program level: Custom selection of accepted certifications, sources of certifications and NGOs

Supplier diversity is a business strategy that drives the inclusion of diverse-owned businesses in the procurement of goods within an organization. Diverse groups vary globally in accordance with local laws but often include underrepresented groups such as women and local in-country minorities.  Diverse companies are currently certified by being at least 51 percent owned, operated, and controlled by diverse individuals.  Supplier diversity does NOT include lowering bidding standards or awarding business based on diversity status. The MOD encourages participation by diverse supplier which support the manufacturing process.

Three focus areas of the MOD working group include:

Awareness – Increase awareness of the benefits of having diverse ownership within the supply chain.  Currently the MOD working group is developing a Supplier Diversity standard to distribute globally.

Ability – Increase the ability of diversely owned companies to compete on equal footing and win competitive bids with prime suppliers and end users

Adoption – Increase the adoption of diverse suppliers with the semiconductor industry based on their performance.

Key benefits of supplier diversity include:

  1. Promoting competition that drives improved innovation and cost savings.
  2. Enables companies with Supplier Diversity programs to qualify for new opportunities that require diverse supply chains.
  3. Aligns with common corporate values such as equality and awarding business to the best supplier.
