MADEin4, a New ECSEL Project, to Advance Industry 4.0 Solutions for European Semiconductor Manufacturing Industry

SEMI Europe will co-lead the communication of the technologies developed under a new ECSEL JU (Electronics Components and Systems for European Leadership Joint Undertaking) project launched in April. SEMI Smart Manufacturing Standards will help focus on Industry 4.0 requirements. The project, MADEin4, connects nearly 50 European manufacturers and research and technology organizations (RTOs) to drive Industry 4.0 solutions for the European semiconductor manufacturing industry.

MADEin4, officially Metrology Advances for Digitized ECS Industry 4.0, will focus on developing advanced and highly connected cyber physical systems using a novel Industry 4.0 approach that combines metrology data analysis and design with machine learning methodologies and digital twinning. Designed to drive European semiconductor industry growth, MADEin4 will facilitate manufacturers’ pre-commercial access to test samples by connecting them with large RTOs like imec and CEA-Leti.

For their part, Europe’s leading RTOs will provide manufacturers with access to the most advanced metrology and inspection technologies to help cement Europe’s position as a global technology leader – critical for the European industry to execute future R&D roadmaps. MADEin4 will also elevate the expertise of European workforce and researchers in the field of Industry 4.0.

A 3-year ECSEL JU project coordinated by Applied Materials Israel, MADEin4 is a joint action of nearly 50 manufactures and R&D organizations from 10 countries. MADEin4 will carry an estimated cost of €127 million.

MADEin4 Ilan

ECSEL JU funds development and innovation projects for world-class expertise in key enabling technologies, essential for Europe's competitive leadership in the era of the digital economy. Through the ECSEL JU, the European industry, SMEs and RTOs are supported and co-financed by 30 participating States and the European Union.
