About Semiconductor PRIDE

Semiconductor PRIDE (Semiconductor Professionals for Respect, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity) is a coalition of companies in the semiconductor industry who are committed to advancing LGBTQ+ equity and inclusion.

We support the SEMI Foundation’s efforts to promote LGBTQ+ awareness, education, and advocacy in the semiconductor sector and beyond.

Semiconductor PRIDE envisions a world where LGBTQ+ people are fully respected and celebrated in the semiconductor industry and beyond. We aim to foster a diverse and inclusive environment where LGBTQ+ individuals can thrive and contribute to the advancement of science and technology.

SEMICONDUCTOR PRIDE ORIGIN

In the last several years there has been a disturbing increase in anti-LGBTQ legislation in the US leaving students and employees filled with uncertainty about our rights and safety. The progress our community has made for equal rights is under renewed scrutiny.

In parallel, the impact from the pandemic on supply chains forced the semiconductor industry to reevaluate the reliance on a single geographic region for semiconductor manufacturing. As a result, there has been a new investment to redistribute semiconductor manufacturing to the US and EU.

With this shift in LGBTQ+ experience coupled with an industry poised for growth our community finds itself at an inflection point.

We must influence how our industry reshapes itself to ensure both a better experience for our community and an industry that has the access to all available talent.

WHO WE ARE

The SEMI Foundation, the non-profit arm of SEMI, is excited to broaden our workforce development efforts to advance LGBTQ+ inclusion through our new industry-led working group – Semiconductor PRIDE (Semiconductor Professionals for Respect, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity).

We know the need for a strong and diverse workforce is ever growing with a projected talent gap of 67,000 technically trained workers by 2030. This workforce demand coupled with a changing demographic with around 30% of Gen Z identifying as LGBTQ+ requires us to reexamine how we’re preparing for our future workforce and prepare for this new inflection point. We can influence how our industry reshapes itself to ensure both a better experience for the LGBTQ+ community and an industry that has the access to all available talent.

Semiconductor PRIDE has gained early momentum through an initial brainstorming workshop and subsequent meetings. The 16 SEMI member companies who are already represented on the SEMI Foundation WFD / DEI Advisory Council envisioned what Semiconductor PRIDE could influence within our industry. We’ve mapped four initial priorities to support LGBTQ+ inclusion in the industry.

  • Increase LGBTQ+ visibility within the industry and STEM pipelines
  • Improve LGBTQ+ career development opportunities
  • Strengthen inclusion education and LGBTQ+ awareness
  • Document and share LGBTQ+ best practices within the industry

No. We do not want to introduce barriers to this work, however, there are administrative and event costs that need to be funded. If your company is able to support this there are sponsorship opportunities to offset that investment.

No. We realize that LGBTQ+ inclusion work is at different phases across our industry and within individual companies. Individuals are invited to participate. Use of logos and company resources should be aligned to your individual company policies.
