Podcast: Insights Help Startups Prepare Applications for SEMI Sustainability Program – March 20 Deadline

As part of the push to net zero, the SEMI Startups for Semiconductor Sustainability seeks out and partners with top startups to bring new sustainability technologies to operations across the global semiconductor manufacturing supply chain. Now in its second year, the program has expanded eligibility to a wider range of startups by making emissions, energy-efficiency, and circularity (water and waste) technologies top priorities. With the March 20 submission deadline for applying to the program fast approaching, SEMI encourages all startups, academics, and innovators with compelling ideas for advancing semiconductor industry sustainability to join this year’s program.

To help attract and prepare applicants, James Amano, Senior Director of EHS and Sustainability at SEMI, joined three alumni from last year’s program for a podcast conversation with Francoise von Trapp of 3D InCites. Greg Newbloom, CEO and Co-Founder at Membrion; Ben Hernandez, Founder and CEO at NuMat Technologies; and Daniel Alvarez, Founder and CEO at Purity ReSource each discussed how their company’s solutions are helping the semiconductor industry achieve its sustainability goals, the boost in visibility they received from the program, and tips for this year’s applicants.

SEMI will announce semifinalists in April. Over six weeks, they will be coached by semiconductor industry experts and/or corporate venture capital mentors on how to apply their technologies to the semiconductor industry. As companies advance in the program as semifinalists and finalists, they’re given access to potential proof-of-concept (POC) opportunities and pilot partnerships as well as visibility to major semiconductor players.

LogoThe startups will also get advice on how to pitch investors for funding in a series of meetings. Following a pitch event in June, SEMI will announce the finalists at SEMICON West 2023. Learn more at SEMI.org/startups.

The podcast follows a previous 3D InCites episode that shared highlights from last year’s Startups for Semiconductor Sustainability program. The program is part of the SEMI Sustainability Initiative, which brings together members from across the semiconductor value chain to find solutions to common sustainability issues and share best practices.
