Podcast: SEMICON West 2023 Reimagined for a New Age of Chip Industry Opportunities

With the semiconductor industry’s sights set on seizing new innovation opportunities to help overcome some of the world’s greatest challenges while overcoming headwinds, three areas have come into sharp focus: the industry’s drive to $1 trillion in annual revenue by 2030, sustainability and the growing talent shortage.

To support the chip industry across all three, SEMICON West 2023 is taking aim at Building a Path Forward with a reimagined exhibition and conference as industry experts and visionaries gather July 11-13 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Registration is open.

HSThis year’s SEMICON West features a slew of new features that span keynote and conference programming, networking opportunities and even dining options. SEMI Americas President Joe Stockunas highlighted the enhancements in a podcast with Francoise von Trapp of 3D InCites.

The episode kicks off the official SEMICON West Podcast Series in the runup to and at the event. Keynote and panel speakers, exhibitors and SEMI executives will weigh in on industry trends and why the event, North America’s premier exhibition and conference for the microelectronics supply chain, is a key catalyst for the industry’s growth.

Stockunas discusses the new CEO Summit keynote program, with a critical industry topic highlighting each day of the event:

  • Path to $1T – Tuesday, July 11
    • Luminaries will share insights on the chip industry’s progress towards $1 trillion in annual revenue including the importance of CHIPS Act funding. New semiconductor technology advances and growth segments that promise to boost the global supply chain’s financial performance will also be hot focus topics.
  • Path to Net Zero – Wednesday, July 12
    • CEOs will share sustainability strategies and insights on the U.S. microelectronics industry’s position on international sustainability and climate agreements and legislation
  • Path for Talent – Thursday, July 13
    • Featured topics will include creating a diverse and inclusive industry, building a career in microelectronics and cultivating an inclusive talent pipeline.

The worldwide competition for new chip manufacturing facilities has reached fever pitch, and the CHIPS Act is key for the U.S. to level the playing field with other regions. Stockunas highlights the America's Path Forward in Semiconductors session on July 12 that will provide the latest on CHIPS Act implementation, as well as the broader Sustainability & EHS Forum that runs each day of the event.

Enhanced networking and dining opportunities will make it much more convenient for attendees to remain near the show floor and make the most of their time. Features include more than 20 receptions and gatherings, more meeting rooms, a diverse array of food truck fare, the Taste of San Francisco fine-dining experience, and a Beer & Wine Garden.

Stockunas also provides a sneak peek at more changes coming in 2025, when SEMICON West will start an annual rotation between Phoenix, Arizona and San Francisco.

Popular SEMICON West features will remain well intact this year:

  • The SEMI Market Symposium provides a midyear update of key market trends and drivers as well as a forum to discuss pertinent business issues. Speakers will present market forecasts and analysis for the semiconductor, equipment, materials and other industries in the electronics design and manufacturing supply chain.
  • The Bulls & Bears session features diverse, thought-provoking perspectives on the microelectronics industry from Wall Street analysts.
  • TechTALKS sessions with technology experts explore key themes such as silicon wafers and advanced wafer technology, market dynamics and sustainability in electronic materials. Key topics also include the latest trends in sensorization, heterogeneous integration, and accelerating the pace of lithography and scaling innovation.
  • ImageThe Smart Manufacturing Pavilion highlights automation and equipment for fully autonomous factories, wireless connectivity and security, manufacturing operations enabled by artificial intelligence and machine learning, and deploying Industry 4.0 technologies in new facilities enabled by CHIPS Act funding.
  • The Smart Mobility Pavilion covers key themes including affordable electrification, intelligent sensors for smart mobility, and the role of silicon carbide (SiC) in the automotive ecosystem.
  • The Smart MedTech Pavilion gathers industry leaders, innovators, and venture capitalists to discuss future medical technology sector opportunities and showcases the latest innovations.
  • The Workforce Development Pavilion highlights why microelectronics is a smart career choice, featuring discussions on building a diverse and inclusive workforce. An interactive day with high-school students to help spark their interest in STEM educations and microelectronics careers will also be an important feature.

The FLEX Conference, the annual event focused on flexible hybrid and printed electronics innovations, and the Design Automation Conference (DAC), the premier gathering focused on the design and design automation of electronic circuits and systems, will co-locate with SEMICON West 2023.
