Seeking to spur more green technology innovation for our industry, SEMI Startups for Sustainable Semiconductors launched the third year of the program by inviting startups, academics, and innovators with compelling ideas for advancing semiconductor industry sustainability to apply to participate.

Semiconductor Climate Consortium working groups provided updates on their work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the global chip value chain at the first SCC general meeting of 2024. In addition, Alaina Passavant of the Carbon Disclosure Project presented on emission reporting trends.

Coming in the wake of the COP27, the Smart and Green Manufacturing Summit at SEMICON Europa 2022 (Munich, 15-17 November) had a timely focus on the semiconductor industry’s contribution to meeting the United Nations’ target of limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

To accelerate efforts to reduce the climate impact of the semiconductor value chain, SEMI members from the equipment, materials and service sectors, as well as several device manufacturers are forming the Semiconductor Climate Consortium (SCC).

SEMI welcomes members to join the Semiconductor Climate Consortium (SCC), a new effort to heighten collaboration and transparency in order to reduce chip industry greenhouse gas emissions.  Companies that commit to membership by October 21, 2022 will receive Founding Member designation.

SEMI spoke with Kate Wilson, president of the semiconductor division at Edwards Vacuum, about how her personal dedication to sustainability and Edwards Vacuum’s commitment to green practices such as contributing to the semiconductor manufacturing industry’s reduction of carbon emissions.
